Monocular image based aircraft Sense and Avoid experimental test flights
Sense and avoid test flights with two small unmanned aircraft. One is the intruder (1m wingspan) the other is the own aircraft with the camera system. The aircraft fly on parallel straight paths with 15m (near) and 30m (far) distance between them. In the near case the own aircraft should detect the near mide air collision (NMAC) situation and avoid the intruder. In the far case there is no NMAC so no avoidance is required. Decision about NMAC is done based solely on the image parameters. Every data is processed onboard the own UAV. Sky background is provided for the intruder (intruder altitude higher than own).
The other test flights cover data acquisition with soil background (intruder altitude lower than own).
