Welcome
The European Robotics Week is one of the core euRobotics events. It’s when the whole community reaches out to the non-specialised audience, the general public, from children to senior citizens. It’s the place to interact with robots, to learn and have fun.
After some editions being impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic, this year we have again a full in-person opening event. As every year, our National Coordinators have created a number of activities which are organised throughout the whole of Europe to pronounce robotics in the local accent and spice it with local flavours.
But apart from that, we have reshaped the central event to make it more attractive to the community by introducing brand new elements in the 2024 edition.
First, the attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the Institutional Event, a carefully designed event that will include the presence of industry, artists and representatives from different governments. This year’s edition will be by Spanish in English to make it glocal.
Second, the AIR2024 Festival which will be the main piece of the central event. More than 10 activities have been organised in collaboration with universities, companies and other educational actors to bring robotics closer to the general public.
Finally, the central event will be continued by the Hisparob’s national conference on the 15th of November attaching European and Spanish events in the same place and week.
Zaragoza, whose name comes from Cesar Augusta in the honour of Octavian and where the Roman legacy can be still seen all over the city, will combine past and future, senior and children, old friends and new ones to be, for three days, the centre of European robotics.
We also want to take the chance of this year’s ERW central event in Zaragoza together with the ERF next year in Stuttgart to thank our Spanish and German robotic communities as both countries have the highest number of euRobotics members.
A warm welcome to everyone.
Reinhard Lafrenz,
Secretary General of euRobotics
Why Zaragoza?
The choice of Zaragoza as the setting for this year’s Central Event was made carefully and for good reason. Firstly, Zaragoza is an acknowledged centre for robotics in Spain. Secondly two euRobotics members are sitting in Zaragoza: Universidad de Zaragoza and Instituto Tecnológico de Aragón. Thirdly, Spain is the second country in Europe with the highest number of euRobotics members. In total, 29 organizations belong to our association. Finally, and very importantly, the city has excellent transport links with high-speed rail services connecting Zaragoza with the major cities and international transport hubs of Madrid and Barcelona.

10:00 - 11:00 Lab Tour at I3A. Universidad de Zaragoza
Location
The Aragon Institute for Engineering Research (I3A) has, since its creation in 2002, a decided international vocation. Its commitment to innovative science stands out, mainly based on international collaboration.
Its different research groups work and interact with groups and institutions around the world. Its participation in European projects, in consortia and programs whose objective is the advancement of the knowledge society stands out.
The I3A was the first Research Institute created by the University of Zaragoza, in 2002. On May 14, the Government of Aragon approved Decree 169/2002 that marked the beginning of a new stage and the commitment to science from University. Thus, the research capacity of a good part of the university groups of the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA) was grouped together with others of the Faculty of Sciences, Economics and Business and Veterinary Medicine.
Today, the I3A is one of the research benchmarks in Aragon and the first in technological research with more than 500 professionals and 34 research groups in Biomedical Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies, Processes and Recycling and Industrial Technologies.
