TG Telerobotics/Teleops Co-ordinator and CERN host Eloise Matheson

Last month euRobotics Secretary General Reinhard Lafrenz shared his very favourable personal impressions after taking part in the TG Telerobotics and Teleops seminar at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), Switzerland at the end of last year. This time, with their ears still ringing with the widespread positive feedback, we asked the organisers to share their own impressions.

Eloise Matheson hosted the event in her dual role as Engineer in the Mechatronics, Robotics and Operations Section at CERN and one of the TG coordinators. This was her response: “The Telerobotics and Teleoperations Topic Group seminar at CERN was a great opportunity to hear from a varied audience across Europe on how they use, develop and research telerobotics tools and platforms. After many discussions and demos, I think we gained a deeper insight into the current challenges and different approaches to meet them, in a variety of application areas from nuclear sites to forestry to factories.

On a personal level, it was lovely to interact with such a friendly and passionate group. Whilst this may have been the last seminar from our co-chair cohort, we really look forward to seeing new chairs bring new ideas and further life into the topic group in the future. See you in future seminars and hopefully ERF 2026!”

TG Co-coordinator Karol Janik

TG Co-coordinator Karol Janik is Robotics and Automation Technology Manager at the Manufacturing & Technology Centre, Coventry, UK. Like Eloise, he also expressed his satisfaction, not only with the content of the seminar but equally with the cordial atmosphere and interaction between those who travelled to CERN for the seminar:

“It was a really enjoyable and insightful event, bringing together a wide mix of people working with telerobotics across Europe. The talks, discussions and live demos gave a good sense of where the technology is working well today, and where there is still work to do to make systems more practical and easier to deploy in areas like nuclear, marine, manufacturing and field robotics. I particularly appreciated the open and friendly atmosphere, which made it easy to share experiences and ideas. A big thank you to Eloise and the CERN team for hosting, and to all the colleagues who took the time to travel and meet in person.”
