It starts with the science. The euRobotics Awards follow a neat, logical flow from theory to practice and impact. They begin with the award that recognises the best robotics research – the Georges Giralt PhD Award.
For many years, the PhD Award has been chaired by Gianluca Antonelli, Professor at the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy. On behalf of everyone at euRobotics we pay tribute to Gianluca for the leadership that he has provided in establishing the PhD Award as a pinnacle of acclaim for the best robotics research from scholars in Europe.
Now, we are delighted that Paolo Robuffo Giordano has accepted an invitation to chair this latest edition of the PhD Award. Paolo is a CNRS senior research scientist head of the Rainbow group at IRISA/Inria, Rennes, France.

And so the Award itself. The Call for Candidates is now open. The aim of the Georges Giralt Ph.D. Award is to showcase the best PhD theses defended during 2025 in European universities from all areas of robotics. Outstanding theses with strong theoretical contributions, a focus on professional applications or technology transfer, with a high degree of multi-disciplinarity, or showing how robotics technologies can be applied to new domains, are all eligible for the award.

The award consists of a trophy and the publication of the thesis by Springer in the STAR series. The award will be presented to the winner(s) during the euRobotics Awards Ceremony.
For this Award, the first key date to note is the submission deadline: Wednesday 31 December 2025.
Full details about the competition and the process to follow are shown on the Georges Giralt PhD Awards page at eu-robotics.net
