PAL Robotics’ TIAGo robot impressed visitors at the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos, Spain recently, with a live demo – solving a problem by thinking of and using a tool.

The event was part of the MetaTool Project, an EU-funded initiative inspired by early human tool-making. Combining archaeology, neuroscience and robotics, the goal is to understand the cognitive evolution that led humans to develop tools in order to develop intelligent robots that can adapt, self-evaluate, and invent tools to solve real-world challenges.

One of the MetaTool Project’s key partners, PAL Robotics is helping bring this vision to life by integrating its TIAGo++ platform into the project’s advanced AI framework. Read more about PAL’s involvement via Robots Inventing Tools – Meta Tool Demo

As Dr Pablo Lanillos of Spain’s National Research Council says: “We already have algorithms to enable machines to use tools and now it is time to develop robots that invent tools”
