It’s now less than a month before European Robotics Week, the annual celebration of all things robotics-related across the continent. ERW National Coordinators are now preparing hundreds of events in many countries around Europe and beyond. Meanwhile, planning is well advanced for this year’s ERW Central Event in Zaragoza, Spain’s fifth largest city and capital of the historic region of Aragon. At the heart of the Central Event, the AIR 2024 AI and Robotics festival promises to be a memorable showcase and the centrepiece of an exceptional week in Zaragoza.
Presented by euRobotics, HispaRob and the Aragon Institute of Technology (ITA), the Central Event in Zaragoza will shine a three-day spotlight on the world of robots from 13-15 November. Sponsorship packages are still available.
In what promises to be the highlight of the whole week, an AI and Robotics Festival (AIR2024) in Zaragoza city centre is expected to attract, fascinate and entertain whole families, from small children to their grandparents and with every generation in between. Themed activities will introduce the many expected attendees in an entertaining way to AI, robotics, the possibilities of tech education and careers, especially for girls, lifelong learning, and robots in daily life.
The Central event will consist of a European-focused Central Event on the 13th and 14th November organised by euRobotics that will be a prelude for HispaRob’s own ERW 2024 Conference, with the Spanish national event taking place on the following day (15 November), also in Zaragoza.
The choice of Zaragoza as the setting for this year’s Central Event was made carefully and for good reason. Firstly, Zaragoza is an acknowledged centre for robotics in Spain. Secondly and very importantly, it has excellent transport links with high-speed rail services connecting Zaragoza with the major cities and international transport hubs of Madrid and Barcelona.
In a further focus on education and careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), HispaRob will play a key role in SIMO Educación, an international fair devoted to technology and innovation education, which will take place at the IFEMA congress centre in Madrid the following week (19-21 November). Further background information is included in the official media announcement, in both English and Spanish.
Zaragoza programme
- The Central Event kicks off at 10am on Tuesday 13th November with a 45-minute Lab Tour at the Universidad de Zaragoza. The euRobotics Board of Director and Topic Group Coordinators will then meet at the nearby Aragon Institute of Technology (ITA), before an evening reception and dinner with institutional partners.
- the next day (14th November), following several institutional events at ITA in the daytime, the AIR Festival will take place a short tram-ride away from ITA at Espacio Joven Fundación Ibercaja, from 5.30-8.30pm, SER2024 | euRobotics (eu-robotics.net)
The AIR Festival concludes the Central Event itself, but for Zaragoza the robotics focus continues the next day (Thursday 15th November with HispaRob’s own Spanish-language national event back at ITA.
For any euRobotics member planning to be in Zaragoza, travel by high-speed train from either Madrid or Barcelona is swift and comfortable and discounted rail fares are available.
